Research: tables in answers now look like a spreadsheet

Tables in Research chat answers are now drawn as a spreadsheet grid, with column letters, row numbers and right-aligned figures. Copy one straight into Excel or Google Sheets, or download it as an Excel file.

What changed

  • A real grid. Every table in a Research answer is drawn like a spreadsheet: thin lines around each cell, a shaded header row, column letters across the top and row numbers down the side.
  • Figures line up. Dollar amounts, percentages and negatives in parentheses sit on the right with evenly spaced digits, so a column of numbers reads at a glance. Words stay on the left.
  • Copy into Excel. Copy puts the table on your clipboard so pasting into Excel or Google Sheets fills one cell per value.
  • Download as Excel. Download .xlsx saves the table as an Excel file named after the heading above it. Amounts and percentages arrive as numbers you can sum and chart, not as text.
  • Wide tables scroll. A table wider than the screen scrolls sideways on its own, with the row numbers staying in place, on a phone as well as on a desktop.
