Building the model

Lock & save changes

How edits to the pro-forma are committed, and how the lock prevents two analysts from clobbering each other's model.

The pro-forma uses the same Edit Mode and lock model as the rest of the property workspace. This page is a focused walkthrough for the model itself.

The save flow

  1. Flip into Edit Mode on the property.
  2. Edit any cell — assumptions, line items, debt terms.
  3. The save bar at the bottom counts pending changes.
  4. Click Save to commit them all in one transaction.

If a save fails (network drop, validation error, stale lock), nothing commits. Your edits stay pending so you can fix the issue and retry. The pro-forma is never half-saved.

See Edit mode and the save bar for the full save-bar semantics.

The lock

When you flip Edit Mode on, you acquire a property-wide lock. While you hold it:

  • Other org members can read the pro-forma but can't edit.
  • A re-run of any section (including a re-generation of the pro-forma itself) is blocked.
  • Push-back from Excel for this property is blocked until you save and release.

When you save and exit Edit Mode, the lock releases automatically. See Property locks.

Re-generation vs save

Two distinct actions:

  • Save commits your manual edits. Free.
  • Re-generate re-runs the AI pro-forma agent from scratch. Costs one credit on Self-Serve.

Re-generation respects your overrides by default — you'll be asked Merge or Replace when there are existing overrides. See Generate with AI.

What if I lose my connection mid-edit

The save bar is local until you click Save — your edits live in your browser's session. If your connection drops:

  • Before save: your edits are still in the save bar. Reconnect, click Save.
  • During save: the save is atomic on the server side. Either it landed (in which case you'll see your changes after a refresh) or it didn't (in which case retry).

If you walk away for 10+ minutes mid-edit, your lock will release and someone else might take it. Save often if the property is shared.

What if the lock is stuck

If the model is stuck behind someone else's lock and they've gone home, an admin can force unlock. This discards their pending edits — Slack them first.
